Guelph Engineering

Professional Development Conference

The Professional Development Conference will inscribe the tools undergraduate engineering students need to acquire pivotal career opportunities. All Undergraduate Engineering students at the University of Guelph will be allowed to register, however due to special restrictions we can only accommodate 80 students. The Conference will invite in Engineering Alumni and Successful Engineers to share their experience and advice with students.

Finding employment after graduation is the primary objective of the majority of undergraduate engineering students. However, the job market is inundated with applications from undergraduates and many students are struggling to obtain work in their field of studies.

For young engineering graduates, the ability to obtain career-experience in between academic semesters is imperative to their ability to secure a career after graduation. The ability of students to effectively market themselves and their skills to potential employers and industries is essential to their success in this respect.

These abilities are derived from strong oral and written communication skills, as well as self-confidence, which translate directly into sound resumés and successful networking abilities. It is critical for the success of both undergraduate students and higher educational institutions that students develop these skills, which are not always easily proliferated in the classroom
